Planned society

Book: Matched

Author: Ally Condie

Recommend: So far so good… definitely one to look into…

Okay, so I picked this one off the shelf at the bookstore and was instantly intrigued. The plot on the back of the book reminded me of a mash-up of The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins and a movie called Timer, all of which I absolutely loved and I was not disappointed except to find out that I have to wait for two more books since it’s a trilogy. Ugh!

The book tells the story of a girl named Cassia who is matched to marry her childhood friend Xander when she finds out that there was a mistake and that there were really two options for her even though one of the boys was not eligible. She quickly finds out that her perfect society is not what it seems and as she delves deeper, she unravels more of the mysteries that lie behind their perfectly planned out lives. I have been reading and watching quite a bit of stuff with similar plot lines lately and I can say that it was a fun quick read. I can’t really think of anything negative to say about this one except that I wanted a more definite conclusion. I was severely disappointed with the ending of the book until I found out that it was going to be a trilogy.

This is definitely one to pick up and read over spring break or the next three-day weekend you have.
